In September 2011, Global Lab became the first education company awarded residency in the prestigious Skolkovo Innovation Center. Organized by the Skolkovo Foundation on behalf of then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, the center is a unique scientific and technological area outside of Moscow that serves as Russia's Silicon Valley. In December 2011, the Skolkovo Foundation awarded an initial grant to Global Lab to support the company's development of a new generation of learning materials. The center is limited to exceptionally innovative organizations and includes the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, created in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), corporate R&D centers, business incubators and accelerators, private seed and venture funds, start-up companies, and now Global Lab.
